The Deposition

Alonso Berruguette, 1486–1561

This unrecorded and possibly unique engraving is attributed to Berruguette on the grounds of its relationship to his painting of The Entombment in the Church of San Pedro, Fuentes de Nava. Although it is very close to the composition of this work, which, it has been suggested, belongs to his mature Spanish period, it is not a literal copy but shows certain variations.
