The Meal (or Le Repas)

Georges Roualt, 1900

A dark interior illuminated by a ray of light which falls on two ladies seated at a small table laden with wine glasses, plates, and a bowl of flowers. To the right, there is a youth with a tray of wine and fruit and behind the table, there is a girl in yellow playing a mandolin. The pastel is drawn in the manner of Gustave Moreau. One of twenty seven gifts to seven museums by A E Anderson through the Art Fund between 1922 and 1938.
