Thought to be a trial version for the one in the Scuola di San Rocco. One of six paintings bequeathed by Gaspard Farrer which previously belonged to his father Sir William Farrer, one of the best-known collectors of Italian pictures in the late nineteenth century. The 6 works were part of a larger bequest which included pictures, prints, Oriental ceramics and silver plate.
