Pudlo was an important artist, the first (and to date, the only) Inuit artist to be given a retrospective at the National Gallery of Canada, in 1989. This distinctive work represents the environment and Inuit life over the annual cycle, is somewhat sprawling, but rich and engaging, and imaginatively composed (with a mix of top-down and side-on views). This acquisition was presented by the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
