The Tanner Collection
Robin Tanner, 1927–1988
The Tanner Collection assembled by James Roose-Evans includes 20 etchings and four private press books, among them iconic plates such as Wiltshire Hedger, GamekeeperÂ’s Cottage (main illustration), Christmas, Wiltshire Woodsman, Harvest Festival, and Wiltshire Rickyard. Together they represent a good survey of the printmaker's career. This collection compliments and relates to the collection of prints by Joseph Webb and Copley & Gabain which were ArtFunded in 2005 and 2008. Aberystwyth houses one of the UKÂ’s fine collections of prints representing the Etching Revival from Whistler to the inter-war years. This is the first acquisition of works by Robin Tanner who belongs to a group of 1920s pastoralist etchers. These pastoralist etchers derived their vision of rural Britain from the work of Samuel Palmer and F. L. Griggs.
