Twelve woodblock prints and eleven woodblocks
Nana Shiomi, 1999–2006
Nana Shiomi is a leading contemporary exponent of Japanese woodblock printing. Shiomi uses both traditional Japanese methods of printing (as used by traditional ukiyo-e printers) and modern techniques and materials. The prints acquired by the Oriental Museum have been selected to relate to a range of artefacts and other works of art currently held within the museumÂ’s collection. Depicting amongst other things traditional Japanese screens, a tea whisk and a tea bowl, the prints are simply but powerfully pictorial. Presented by the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
