© the artist's estate. All Rights Reserved 2010 / Bridgeman Art Library

This fine example of Anne Redpath's late, semi-abstract style is one of several pictures of altarpieces which she painted in Venice and Portugal towards the end of her life. It will join several modern British works which the Hove Museum has bought recently with the Art Fund's help. A portrait by Bernard Meninsky was acquired in 1977 and pictures by Malcolm Drummond and Gilbert Spencer in 1980.
