Art Funded by you

View of Cambridge from Castle Hill

James Ward, 1840

As well as training as an engraver, Ward studied anatomy and agreed to produce portraits of various cattle breeds for the Agricultural Society, resulting in him becoming one of the most significant animal painters of his generation. This rare panoramic painting depicts the intricate architecture of Cambridge, as well as rural farm workers, animals and the distant rolling hills.
