View on a quay with figures at the centre near a rowing boat and part of a ship visible on the right. In the background, we can see an arch, lofty buildings and a lighthouse. Previously titled 'View of Seaport or Seaport at Sunset'. Part of an album of drawings belonging to Lord James Cavendish MP (d 1741), son of the second Duke of Devonshire (1665-1729), founder of the great collection of drawings at Chatsworth. The collection of drawings form an interesting relic of the great age of collecting in England.
