View towards Stratford St Mary Church
John Constable, c. 1805

A wooded landscape is portrayed, with trees in the foreground. A church tower nestles among trees in the middle distance, with low hills beyond under a grey cloudy sky. This work is one of seven purchased at the Christie's sale held in aid of the British Red Cross Society. Miss Julia Reckitt donated the sum of £50 and the Art Fund purchased the works and distributed them to seven public institutions including the British Museum, Tate, Birmingham and Manchester.
