Views of Sheringham

Eight views of Sheringham and its maritime heritage. The paintings recreate historical scenes from the local fishing industry which was once active in Sheringham, but has now largely disappeared. They draw on research carried out by the artist including talking to local fishermen and their families. Titles are: 1) Crabbers Launching c.1900; 2) Sheringham Crab Boats-Early Start c.1900; 3) Taking out the winch cable c.1985; 4) Wyndham Street, Sheringham c.1895; 5) Fishing lugger 'Upcher' going to aid a ship in distress c.1828; 6) Westcliff c.1895; 7) East Beach, c mid 1890s; 8) Collier unloading at low water c.1890s. This work was acquired with the support of the Art Fund with the assistance of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
