Yellow Open Form

Merete Rasmussen, 2010

RasmussenÂ’s work makes a bold statement - it is both abstract and sculptural. She is interested in the idea of a work with a single continuous surface and only one edge. Her pieces can be either asymmetrical, with one surface and one edge, or they can be a repetition of numerous symmetrical connected parts. Her glazes are monochrome in colour and the surfaces matt, allowing the form and the spaces created to stand out in bold contrast. She initially produced work in grey, blue and black, but has recently spent time researching and experimenting to produce a yellow glaze, a technically difficult and expensive colour to produce.
