G. Wille was a German master of line-engraving who lived and worked in Paris. His drawings are not common and few are to be found in public collections in this country, so this particular one, which shows a scene from the adventures of Harlequin has considerable documentary value. It is probably not connected with any ultimate print, but the rather matter-of-fact drawing reveals the hand of a line-engraver whose style always retained affinities with German, rather than with French, tradition.
