Greek-Armenian artist Aikaterini Gegisian explores notions of national identity and migration in her multimedia work.
The three works acquired all deal with these issues within the context of the northeast of England. House of (Un)Commons comprises interviews with people from different communities in the area. Turn Back Tide examines the industrial heritage in the region, while The Sea Blues explores the journeys taken by migrants across the Mediterranean Sea. The artist has strong connections with MIMA, for whom she has made several existing commissions.
