Alfred Wallis’ atmospheric painting Harbour with China Clay Tips is a distinctive work by the self-taught visionary St Ives artist and fisherman.
The painting joins Abbot Hall’s small but strong collection of work by St Ives artists. Comparisons can also be drawn between Wallis’ paintings and those of Percy Kelly, the selftaught Cumbrian artist whose work is prominent in the gallery’s collection.
