These portraits were painted at the time of the Acworths' marriage, and are particularly good examples of Hudson's work.

Abraham Acworth (1719-1781) was named after his uncle, Abraham Ball, from whom he inherited a considerable fortune in 1741, and he became a Clerk to the Exchequer. In 1745 he married Margaretta Mabella Buckeridge, then aged nineteen, the eldest daughter of his uncle Abraham's widow by a former marriage and herself an heiress.

Provenance

Descended to Angus Acworth.
