He is intent on depicting wild nature in his rocky scenes, figures or buildings introduced only to enhance the power and scale of the elements. Although a number have topographical titles, their treatment is free. They reflect two moods, the dramatic and the contemplative, but particularly pleasing are those ideal landscapes where all is serene and quiet.
