The figures are shown three-quarter length in a landscape setting.
The lady wears a yellow silk dress with white lace trimmings and a blue wrap; while the man, holding a letter, has a brown velvet coat, a white satin waistcoat, and lace cuffs. William Wilberforce was uncle to William Wilberforce, the emancipator. It was with this family that the young William went to live on the death of his father in 1768.
