The desk is made up of a pine carcase and oak drawers, veneered with Indian rosewood, coralwood and ebony, and inlaid in engraved ivory, boar's tusk and bone.
It is embellished with the Saxe-Meiningen coat of arms.

Presented to the Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Meiningen (1649-1706) as a wedding gift, Elisabethanburg, Meiningen; Guthe Family (from Leipzig) who settled in England, 1875; Giles Ellwood.
