The University of Hull Art Collection is a small but important selection of British paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints produced between 1890-1940.
While the University of Hull Art Collection may not be as well-known as some of the larger galleries, it offers a unique and intimate experience for art lovers. Its focus on art in Britain during a specific 50 year period provides a valuable insight into the development of art in the UK.
British Modernism
The gallery to showcases paintings and drawings from a particular era in British art history, offering a coherent and in-depth exploration. It includes works by renowned artists such as Augustus John, Aubrey Beardsley, Philip Wilson Steer, Ben Nicholson, Stanley Spencer, and Wyndham Lewis. The Collection also displays works by sculptors, including Epstein, Gaudier-Brzeska, Henry Moore and Frank Dobson.
The Bloomsbury Group
The collection includes pieces from Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant of the Bloomsbury Group, who were influential in early 20th-century British culture. Other collectives represented are Camden Town Group and its successor the London Group.
Temporary exhibitions
The University mounts an exciting programme of loan exhibitions and has shown exhibitions in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, Government Art Collection, and the Science Museums Group.

Take a short bus ride to the Museums Quarter in Kingston-upon-Hull, where you will find The Hull and East Riding Museum with spectacular natural history and archaeology displays, the neighbouring, Wilberforce House, dedicated to the life and work of William Wilberforce and the Streetlife Museum of Transport, with a vast collection of vehicles from across the ages.
