Barber Association Look Club: (Un)Still Life: An Object Lesson?

17 October 2024
1.30 – 3pm
£3

Friendly discussion of the display 'Unstill Life', with works by De Heem, Tassaert, Léger and Pechstein. (BA Members only).

All that's great about a book club – but without the homework!

Join us for friendly discussion around the display Unstill Life: Global Mobility and Consumerism in Still Life Paintings, as we explore the functions and forms of four very different and intriguing paintings: Jan Davidsz de Heem's Still Life with Nautilus Cup, 1632; Maria Tassaert's Still Life with a Garland of Fruit from the 1660s; Fernand Léger's Still Life with Fruit; and Max Pechstein's Still Life in Grey, 1913.

Still life is often considered a genre designed to showcase impressive assortments of inanimate objects and demonstrate painters' technical virtuosity. But there's more to it than that, as this display in our Blue Gallery illustrates...

Look Club is an opportunity for people who love art to get together and share their thoughts, likes and dislikes. It's not a lecture, but a chance to discuss and air your ideas – followed by tea, coffee and biscuits.

Please note: Look Club is exclusively for Barber Association Members and Patrons.
