Museum Talk: Landscape Change in the Scottish Highlands with Dr James Fenton
Join us as author and ecologist Dr James Fenton shares his research on the history of Highland landscape, how it has changed over the centuries and how it is still changing. At the heart of James' exploration is the challenge he makes to the view that the Highlands are, to quote the famous ecologist Frank Fraser Darling, ‘a devastated landscape’. It is sure to be fascinating evening.
Dr. James Fenton is a retired professional ecologist with intimate knowledge of Wester Ross. He has worked for many organisations including the British Antarctic Survey, The National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage (now NatureScot) and, in a voluntary capacity, the Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Scottish Wild Land Group. He is currently editor of Wild Land News and, until recently, an elected Board Member of the National Trust for Scotland. In 2021 he was awarded the Ronnie Rose Trophy for services to moorland conservation by the Scottish Gamekeepers Association and has had numerous articles published.
