The paired Anglo-Saxon cemeteries of Sawcliffe were discovered in the early 1990s by two metal detectorists and excavated over the next five years by North Lincolnshire Museum.
Just over a quarter of a century later, interpretation and understanding of the site and its significance has grown and the site report is due to be published. It is now possible to put the Sawcliffe cemeteries into context within the landscape and to tell the story of Winterton Vale, the Hidden Valley, and its place in early medieval England.
