How would Shiva Nataraj (The Diving Cosmic Dancer) react to our modern world?
We live in a time of unprecedented technological and social transformation, in which the quesiton of how traditional customs should either adapt or resist these changes is more pressing than ever.
In this performance we welcome this question by exploring the various creative tensions and possibilities that arise from combining traditional forms of Indian music and dance with some of the more novel possibilities allowed by modern technology.
Our group features Gaby Albornoz (dance), Alec Cooper (sitar), Justyna Jablonska (cello) and Sodhi Deerhe (tabla).
The show lasts 50 mintues and is followed by an open, informal conversation where we get to share and hear each other's thoughts on these important and urgent cultural questions.
