PoW! is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a movement. Through engaging activities and events, we aim to inspire people to explore their own wellbeing while contributing to the preservation of GHM, a vital resource for Bristol’s history and heritage.

"Thanks to National Lottery players, we can now develop our plans to secure the future of our Museum," says Stella Man, Consultant Director at GHM.

In February, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited GHM to celebrate its 40th anniversary, recognizing its vital role in bringing Bristol’s medical history to life.

Today, the museum’s dedicated community of volunteers maintains three key collections, deeply connected to local and national history:

  • Bristol’s psychiatric hospital (1861–1994)

  • Beaufort War Hospital (1915–1919) – a military orthopaedic hospital

  • Stoke Park Colonies (1909–2000) – a facility for people with learning disabilities

With its engaging exhibits and inclusive approach, GHM creates a safe and welcoming space for visitors to reflect on the past, challenge perspectives, and explore mental wellbeing.
