Ashmolean displays the Wilton Diptych as part of the National Gallery’s ‘National Treasures’ bicentenary celebrations, sharing 12 of the nation’s most iconic paintings across the UK.
In 2024, the Ashmolean is proud to participate as a partner venue for the National Treasures exhibitions. As a highlight of the National Gallery's 200th birthday celebrations, 12 paintings will be loaned to various UK locations, with all displays unveiling on May 10, 2024.
Among these, the Ashmolean will showcase the Wilton Diptych, crafted around 1395-9 for Richard II, the King of England from 1377 to 1399. This small, portable altarpiece stands as one of the few surviving English panel paintings from the Middle Ages, adding a significant historical touch to the exhibition.
