Firelei Báez: Sueño de la Madrugada (A Midnight’s Dream)

28 June - 8 September 2024
Free to all

Contemporary artist uses mythology to explore gender, power and climate.

Firelei Báez is an artist who creates immersive installations and colourful paintings. Her work explores relationship between diasporic cultures and the legacies of colonialism, often tackling themes of folklore, gender, power, ecology and resilience.

In Sueño de la Madrugada (A Midnight’s Dream), Báez will present a new body of work about the Ciguapa, a mythological female figure from Dominican folklore. Another immersive installation will draw from her personal experiences of climate change and migration in both the Caribbean and the United States.
