An exhibition of costume and carpet, tracing textile sustainability throughout the last century
An exhibition charting shifting fashions in fabric and fibres across the last century
In an era of fast fashion and disposable fabrics, the Museum of Carpet looks at textile sustainability across the span of 100 years, displaying costumes from the Kidderminster College Collection alongside contemporary carpets from the Museum archives.
From sustainable and biodegradable fabrics to disposable and fragile materials, through to recycled and repurposed clothing, this exhibition traces changing trends in fashion textiles and carpet fibres. “Frocks and Floors” invites viewers to consider what their clothing and carpets are made of, and to think about the future of fabric and fibre design.
This exhibition traces changing trends in fashion textiles and carpet fibres, exploring the influences on this evolution. The costumes stand with contemporary carpets, carefully selected to reflect the varying fabric choices of each period.
“Frocks and Floors” invites viewers to consider what their clothing and carpets are made of, and to think about the future of fabric and fibre sustainability. Immerse yourself in the tactile nature of fabrics and fibres with our handling boxes and cast your vote at the end of our exhibition on the question of preservation vs re purposing.
