Revealing the environmental impacts of colonialism in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sammy Baloji is interested in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and often researches its cultural, architectural and industrial heritage as well as the legacy of Belgian colonisation.
From exploring the environmental impact of colonialism on rainforests to the mining of uranium during the Cold War through a film and installation, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art’s exhibition will delve into the interconnected strands of Baloji’s research on climate, tropical architecture, Belgian Art Nouveau and extraction.
