Poignant landscapes reflecting memory, trauma and hidden histories
Syrian-Armenian photographer Hrair Sarkissian presents a powerful exhibition combining photography, moving image and sound to explore landscapes marked by trauma and displacement. Through three distinct bodies of work, he documents places that bear the silent traces of past events – whether personal histories or collective tragedies.
His meditative images reveal the scars left behind, offering an alternative way of witnessing conflict and loss. Sarkissian, who trained in his father’s photographic studio in Damascus, is one of the most significant conceptual photographers of his generation, using his work to unearth hidden narratives and challenge official histories.
