Monumental porcelain sculptures inspired by traditional Chinese techniques
Towering up to five metres high, Felicity Aylieff’s vast porcelain sculptures transform Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Weston Gallery into a mesmerising landscape of blue and white forms. Created in collaboration with master ceramicists in Jingdezhen, China’s porcelain capital, these hand-thrown pieces reimagine traditional Chinese techniques through expressive abstract brushwork.
Aylieff’s practice pushes the material to its limits, challenging perceptions of scale and fragility. Alongside the sculptures, photographs document the physical process behind their creation, and a selection of her unique oversized brushes reveal the tools used to bring these bold, dynamic works to life.
