Launched in 1901, the Royal Research Ship Discovery (RRS Discovery) holds the distinction of being the very last traditional ship of its kind built in the UK. The legendary wooden three-masted ship was built in Dundee, specifically for Antarctic exploration. Adventure seekers and history fans alike will enjoy the hands-on experience of exploring the legendary vessel.
Interactive exhibits
Climb aboard the ship and explore the decks, cabins, and engine room. Interactive exhibits and audiovisual displays bring the vessel's fascinating history to life. Imagine yourself as part of Captain Scott's crew, setting sail for the unknown on the British National Antarctic Expedition. Learn about the challenges they faced and the groundbreaking scientific discoveries they made.
Antarctic adventures
The Discovery Point museum boasts a vast collection of artefacts and exhibits that delve deeper into the world of Antarctic exploration. You'll find everything from scientific instruments used on the expedition to personal belongings of the crew members.
Explore the explorers
While Captain Scott is synonymous with the Discovery expedition, another famous explorer, Ernest Shackleton, was also a crew member on that voyage. Shackleton would go on to lead his own daring Antarctic expeditions and the museum offers a chance to learn more about both of these fearless pioneers.
