The museum's collection spans from the prehistoric era to the 20th century. Find fossil footprints left by creatures that roamed the land millions of years ago. Learn about the tools and weapons used by the region's earliest inhabitants. Admire intricate stone carvings crafted by the first Christians in Scotland. The museum also showcases everyday items used in Victorian homes, workshops, and farms.
Camera obscura
One of the museum's true highlights is that it houses the world's oldest working camera obscura. This early optical device projects a live panoramic view of the surrounding area onto a screen within a darkened chamber. Please note, for preservation reasons, demonstrations of the Camera Obscura are dependent on weather, it cannot be used in rain or high winds.
