Gracefield Arts Centre
Set in lovely grounds by the River Nith in Dumfries, Gracefield Arts Centre offers a changing programme of art and craft exhibitions, events and activities.
The Gracefield Arts Centre is a hub for creative activity in Dumfries. Founded in 1951 by a committee of local residents, it's housed in a beautiful Category B listed building that was originally a private residence named Gracefield. Today, the centre offers a dynamic program of exhibitions and activities that appeal to a wide range of visitors.
Scottish artists
The centre’s permanent collection of over 600 works, has a focus on Scottish art. Visitors can admire pieces by renowned artists like the Scottish Colourists, the Glasgow Boys, and the work of contemporary artists like Elizabeth Blackadder, John Bellany and Joan Eardley. Any works not currently on show can be viewed by prior appointment.
A fresh look
The centre also presents a program of changing exhibitions featuring local, national, and international artists, ensuring there's always something new to discover. There's also a variety of workshops and activities throughout the year, suitable for both adults and children.
Printmaking
For the serious creative there is an active printmaker's workshop open to practising artists for daily hire for etching and relief printmaking and screen printing.
While you are in the area, why not check out the Dumfries Museum which is free to enter, and a 20 minute walk from the Gracefield Arts Centre.
