Hastings Contemporary
With a National Art Pass you get
Hastings Contemporary brings world-class modern and contemporary art to a spectacular coastal setting.
Engaging exhibitions
The gallery is a key part of the vibrant artistic network of the south coast, presenting a broad range of works by historically important and internationally renowned artists, emerging practitioners, as well as exploring the rich cultural history of artists from the region. They're supported by Artist Patron Sir Quentin Blake.
Striking landscape
Sitting next to the fishing beach in Hastings’ historic Old Town, the building’s design echoes its surroundings – 8,000 hand-glazed black tiles covering the exterior evoke the tarred boards of the nearby fishermen's net huts.
Art Funded
To date, the gallery has run two successful Art Happens crowdfunding campaigns. The first, in 2014, raised almost £30,000 to put on a major exhibition of work by the Chapman Brothers, while in 2017 they raised £14,000 to bring Paula Rego to the gallery for an exhibition of new work that celebrated her love of the sea.
