Gustav Holst
Gustav Holst was born in the house on 21st September, 1874 and lived there until 1882, shortly after his mother’s death. Exhibits explore the life and work of Holst and include his gramophone, and the piano he owned in later life, on which he composed his most famous work The Planets.
Victorian residents
The house is meticulously furnished with period pieces. Each room is faithfully recreated, from the grand drawing-room to the servants’ quarters below stairs. Hear stories of its eclectic residents, experience a working Victorian kitchen and scullery, and delight in authentic Victorian interiors.
Activities and events
Join the Victorian Book Club for a lively discussion, or learn how to knit like they did in the 1800s with the knitting group. For a truly immersive experience, take part in a baking session in the authentic Victorian kitchen, where you can learn to make traditional treats.
2024 marks the 150th anniversary of Holst’s birth, look out for events celebrating the renowned composer.
