Spelthorne Museum
Spelthorne Museum reveals the local history and archaeology of the northernmost Borough of Surrey.
Located in Staines Library, this small but fascinating museum that showcases the history and archaeology of the Borough of Spelthorne, making it a great place to learn about the local area's past, from the prehistoric era to modern times.
Explore the exhibits
The museum has a variety of displays that cover different periods in Spelthorne's history, including the prehistoric era, the Victorian era and even a 3D model of ‘Roman Staines’. You can see artefacts like the London stone of 1285 which marked the extent of London's ownership of the Thames, and the original Staines Parish fire engine of 1738. You will also find displays on the Magna Carta, Staines Lino, World War ll.
Museum art
The museum has a small collection of artworks depicting the area’s changing landscape, including an important local painting, Staines with St. Mary’s Church by Edward H. Niemann, a large oil painting dating from c1880, purchased for the museum with the assistance Art Fund.
