Set within Belfast’s Botanic Gardens, this world-class museum showcases the natural and cultural heritage of Northern Ireland. It houses a vast collection of artefacts and exhibits covering a wide range of topics, from archaeology and history to art and natural science. Explore five floors of exhibitions and collections, from the Ice Age to ancient Ireland, Renaissance paintings to contemporary fashions.

Learn about local history

Learn about the rich history of Ulster through interactive exhibits and displays that explore the region's archaeological, medieval, and the modern past with objects contributed by the public as part of the ‘Collecting the Troubles and Beyond’ project.

Discover some natural history

Discover the fascinating wildlife and geology of Northern Ireland. See impressive dinosaur skeletons, marine fossils, and a variety of taxidermied animals. Look at tiny insects under a microscope and get hands-on with some of the larger objects such as an elephant’s tail.

Admire the Art Gallery

Regularly changing exhibitions showcase the museum’s vast collection of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts from both local and international artists. Discover works from the 16th century to ultra– modern fashion and furniture.

Get interactive

There is plenty to do at the museum, from reconstructing a prehistoric skull, or taking a selfie in period costume. The hands-on Discover Art space on Level 5 sees helpful guides encouraging kids and adults alike to express their artistic side.
