1) JFK TOWER MISSED APPROACH WE'RE IN THE CLOUDS OVER; 2) FULL COLOR SPECTRUM SONAR ON THE WIRE TO FAROES SMALL CRAFT OUTBOUND
Nathan Carter, 1) 2005; 2) 2009
Nathan Carter is interested in communication and pines for the practically obsolete thrills of CB (Citizens' Band radio) and pirate radio rather than the digital. These two works display a turning point in Carter's career from using found, representational source material to pure abstraction. They were selected in close partnership with the artist who identified and proposed to mima these two works as illustrating two distinct stages in his career. In Carters drawings historical figures like Jackson Pollock vie for space with Rodchenko, Kandinsky, Miro, Calder, Mondrian, Hesse and Tuttle. The drawings are an idiosyncratic, chaotic map of the intellectual landscape of art history. He continually folds fragments of art history, contaminating one with the other and this is what really interests him. These works were presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
