Bike Perch

Derrick Guild, 2002–2005

© Derrick Guild

This work was inspired by the collection at Perth Museum and Art Gallery. It depicts a trompe lÂ’oeil effect which is reminiscent of the Old Master and smaller Dutch paintings at Perth. Secondly the numerous bird specimens are evocative of the museum specimens which used for form part of the collection. Guild used to cycle along the river from Perth on fishing trips and observe the rich variety of wildlife in this part of Scotland. All these components have been brought together in the present work.
