Fragments

The work of Peruvian artist Weeks reflects on the relationship between architecture and its social context. This installation was inspired by a publication from 1975 analysing the German World War II fortress bunkers along the French coast in both philosophical and architectural terms. At the heart of the installation is an image of a street in Cusco, Lima, whereby the artist highlights passages and routes taken through the urban environment. The encroachment of the upper floors of the buildings into public space creates another kind of bunker-like structure and raises questions about land rights and ownership. Fragments is notably an architect's table of sketches and plans, composed by the artist to offer comment on the current landscape of Peru. This work was presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
