'Queen Anne' teaset
Shelley Potteries, 1929
The set consists of six cups, saucers and plates, a large plate, a milk jug and a slop basin. It was given to the donor's parents as a wedding present in 1931 and only used occasionally. Shelley Potteries had a reputation for producing high quality bone china and earthenware in contemporary forms. Eric Slater, the firm's Art Director, designed the popular Queen Anne shape in 1926 which was in production for 7 years. Teasets of this shape were often decorated with modern or Art Deco designs but this set has a more conservative 'garland of fruit' decoration.
