Discovery Point and Royal Research Ship Discovery

Launched in 1901, the Royal Research Ship Discovery (RRS Discovery) holds the distinction of being the very last traditional ship of its kind built in the UK. The legendary wooden three-masted ship was built in Dundee, specifically for Antarctic exploration. Scientific research that was begun on the RRS Discovery continues today with the National Oceanography Centre sailing the fourth iteration of the ship bearing the same name, which was built in 2013.
