Founded in 1912, with weavers from William Morris’s workshops, Dovecot Studios continue a century-long heritage of collaborating with leading international artists. Whether visiting the latest exhibitions or watching the weavers at work, expect a unique and engaging exploration of traditional and contemporary artistic expression.
Artistic diversity
The studios display curated exhibitions, alongside touring shows, showcasing a wide range of artistic mediums. Past exhibitions have featured works by established artists like Ptolemy Mann and Wendy Ramshaw, alongside displays focused on specific periods or movements in art history.
Tapestry and weaving
Dovecot Studios boasts a long-standing tradition of tapestry weaving, established with weavers brought in from William Morris's workshops. The studios continue to produce exceptional handwoven tapestries and gun-tufted rugs, working with leading contemporary artists including Graham Sutherland and Chris Ofili.
Hands-on experience
The studios host a variety of workshops, like embroidery and tapestry making. The immersive experience gives an insight into the artistry and skill involved in creating these beautiful textiles.
