Museum of Royal Worcester
With a National Art Pass you get
With a collection of over 10,000 ceramic objects, the Museum of Royal Worcester presents the 250-year history of porcelain production in the Worcestershire city.
Housed within the historic walls of the former Royal Worcester porcelain factory, the museum boasts the world's largest collection of Worcester porcelain. While the factory itself closed in 2009, the museum carries on the legacy of Worcester porcelain production, ensuring this unique craft continues to be appreciated for generations to come.
What to see
Explore the evolution of style, skill, and innovation in Worcester porcelain, from the very first pieces produced in 1751 to iconic 20th century designs. The museum also houses a collection of Worcester's famed "Painted Fruit" designs, known for their lifelike renderings, and the elegant Evesham oven-to-tableware, a pattern that brought Worcester porcelain international acclaim. Keep an eye out for Admiral Lord Nelson's breakfast teapot.
Fascinating archive
The museum holds a unique archive that preserves a wealth of information about the Royal Worcester factory's history and production methods. Here you’ll find pattern books, order books, drawings, engraved copper plates, employment records, photographs, film and an audio recording library, which charts factory workers’ memories from the 1930’s to the factory’s closure. You can also hear the story of the factory's history in an informative audio tour featuring Henry Sandon.
Unleash your inner artist
Let your creativity flow at the museum's popular Paint-Your-Own-Pottery parties in the ceramic studio. Choose your piece, unleash your artistic talents, and the museum will even glaze and fire your creation for you, ready to be collected or posted. Booking is essential.
