Free creative workshop for pregnant people.
At Bumps and Brushes we invite pregnant people to join us, pencil in hand, for a relaxing tour of Abbot Hall’s outstanding galleries. You’ll use high quality art materials to reflect and reimagine what you see, gaining all the wellbeing benefits that come with the chance to get creative alongside other expectant parents.
No sketching experience is needed, so whether you’re a seasoned artist or occasional doodler, this experience offers a mindful, stress-relieving way to connect with Abbot Hall’s displays.
Your guide will take you through the gallery and offer tips and techniques for observation drawing. Respond to the art, feel inspired and create something you’re proud of.
In the first half of the session, you’ll be sketching, mark making and gathering inspiration responding to our current temporary exhibition, Charmaine Watkiss: Legacy. Following this you’ll be invited to the cafe in the Creative Space, where you can pick up a brush and add splashes of colour or extra detail to your work. What you create is entirely up to you.
Pregnant people attending this free session can enjoy access to Abbot Hall’s galleries on 25 January at no additional charge. While this is an adult session, older siblings may be accommodated upon request, subject to capacity. Partners can book a place and come along, but will be required to present or purchase an admission ticket upon arrival. These can be purchased on our website or at the front desk.
Please note: this is a pilot session for what we hope will become a regular event. We’d be delighted if you could provide feedback or suggestions at the end of the session.
