Workshop

Walk & workshop: exploring architecture, public space, and sculptures with Gusty Ferro in collaboration with The Line.

9 August 2025
11am-2pm
Free to all

Come along for a guided walk & hands-on workshop with The Line's public art trail and Gusty Ferro - all materials provided!

Come along for a guided walk along part of The Line's public art trail at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with Gusty Ferro, the East London Art Prize shortlisted artist who will be sharing their practice that explores the relationship between urban infrastructure, public space, and the body.

The walk will be followed by a hands-on collaborative workshop where you will collectively create a fictional square, sketching and transforming objects, taking inspiration from the surrounding artworks along The Line and Gusty's sculptural works that present a brutalist sensitivity to texture and material.

This is an interactive workshop with plenty of time for discussion. All materials provided.

Route information

The initial meeting point for the walk will be at Bromley-by-Bow Station. We will make our way along the River Lea to Bow Locks where we will see Eva Rothschild’s Living Spring; (2011) and then continue along The Line, passing more installations towards The House Mill where Virginia Overton’s ‘Untitled (Juniper)’ ; (2014) is located. After visiting the works there, we will then walk back to our Bow Arts office, 183 Bow Road, London, E3 2SJ for the workshop.

The guided tour will last roughly from 11am-12pm, followed by a two-hour long workshop in our outdoor courtyard (we have sheltered areas if the weather isn’t on our side!) at our main offices at Bow Arts Trust, 183 Bow Road, London, E3 2SJ. There will be breaks for you to grab food and snacks during the workshop.

Please note there will be photography taken at this event for Bow Arts and The Line’s internal reporting and for sharing in print and social media.

This event is co-curated by Wan Yi Sandra Lam, Curator: Programmes & Engagement at Bow Arts and Lorna Powell, Engagement Producer (Public Programme) at The Line.

Free - Tickets must be booked to guarantee your place!

We focus on collaborative engagement projects that support wellbeing and learning, as well as providing opportunities for young people to develop skills and improve employability. At The Line, we value an open, inclusive and nurturing environment to promote collaboration, creativity and wellbeing. We aim to listen and learn from the people we connect with, including visitors and programme participants. Access information

There is step-free access at Bromley-by-Bow station. We will be following a section of The Line's route that is not easily accessible for a wheelchair user due to ramp gradient and cobblestoned surfaces. There will be opportunities to stop and rest along the way, however the tour is reasonably paced and covers changes in level. The Bow Arts Trust offices have step-free access throughout from street level, including to the accessible toilet, and is service animal friendly. This venue does not have a hearing loop system. Accessible parking is not available on-site.

If you have any questions regarding accessibility at this venue or event, would like to make us aware of any access requirements that you have in advance of visiting, or would like this information in an alternate format including Easy Read, please email nunnery@bowarts.com or call 020 8980 7774 (Ext. 3)
