Comics Uncovered: From Glasgow to Gotham

20 May 2023 - 20 October 2024

Discover the fascinating history of comics from Gulliver’s Travels to modern day Marvel.

From caricatures and original drawings to archival material, toys and books, the Bute Family’s collection features a wide range of material about the history of comic books.

This exhibition traces the evolution of comics, showcasing works from Georgian satirists to modern mavericks, displaying contemporary characters such as Black Panther and Spiderman alongside first editions of Jonathan Swift’s satirical Gulliver’s Travels. A range of artists, writers, and publishers from the UK to Europe, and the USA will be on show, ranging from James Gillray, Charles Dickens, DC Comics, Marvel and much more.
