A deep dive into the life of an inter-war artist and his patrons.

An artist particularly prolific during England's interwar years, Rex Whistler adorned entire rooms with captivating murals, painted portraits of patrons and their residences from 1928 until his untimely death on active service in 1944.

Unveiling previously unseen initial sketches from the museum's Rex Whistler Archive, this exhibition offers a close examination of Whistler's relationships with his patrons and his unique working methods. The display will also feature loans from the National Trust, National Army Museum, Welsh Guards, West Dean College and private collections.
