New work by one of the most significant artists working in Britain today.
Claudette Johnson is a prominent British artist renowned for her portrayal of Black women and recently, Black men, while challenging societal norms around identity and sexuality within Black communities. This exhibition features new works, offering an intimate look at Johnson's pieces through line drawings and sketches.
With roots in Manchester and ties to the West Midlands, Johnson's art education at Wolverhampton University shaped her unique style. Known for her role in the Blk Art Group, she continues to push for representation of Black artists. This exhibition marks her first solo show in the region, accompanied by diverse events following a successful retrospective at the Courtauld Gallery in London.
